The UN Secretariat in Ethiopia from African region had released this tender for 1. Background Africa has a rich endowment of natural resources, and the varied set of natural assets presents the continent with a wide range of investment opportunities in alignment with the 2030 Agenda and Agenda 2063. In addition, climate crisis and nature loss are inextricably linked, and all paths to net zero require the removal of carbon from the atmosphere at a large scale, and the only affordable and immediately available methods of such are in nature. This interdependency is clearer in Africa. As almost a quarter of its GDP is dependent on nature, the development pathway for Africa relies on the sound management of its natural resources. Africa’s reliance on nature is a source of vulnerability, but potentially also of competitive advantage. Globally, there are 10 trillion USD of business opportunities of investment in nature . Adequate financial resources can help protect and restore nature, achieving economic advancement in alignment with sustainable development. Global initiatives have been established to retool finance in favor of nature. Later in 2022, COP27 provides a unique opportunity to present the inextricable link between prosperity and nature as a key element to building resilience to climate change and sustainable livelihoods. Against the above background, the UN Economic Commission for Africa (ECA) is working with relevant stakeholders to obtain the right data and unlock investments toward nature-positive outcomes. The work will help African countries to better understand their exposure to nature-related risks and opportunities, which include the creation of a Framework for a national nature strategy. The project will pilot the Framework before scaling up and implementing it in multiple countries. 2. Output The output will be the Framework for National Nature Strategy that will be tested in one pilot country: Ghana. The Framework should meet the needs to measure a country’s nature dependencies; provide a National Nature Strategy in key nature-positive sectors or on outcomes to promote; provide country governments with sufficient information to decide on whether to proceed with the strategy. The detailed expected outputs are: a. Final PPT presentation. b. Workshop reports and agreed deliverables. c. A briefing document (2-3 pages) to be shared with senior policymakers in Ghana (and a template revised version that can be used elsewhere). d.
