By prefectural decree dated November 28, 2025, the prefect of Ariège entrusted ADEME with various missions: - Examine the feasibility of a controlled collapse of the “Old Works” zone as well as the central part below level using a caving technique; - Exhaustively list and qualify meltdowns, collapses, uprooting niches and other landslides; - Analyze the hydrological and hydrogeological functioning of the quarry, particularly in the “Recent Works” sector; - Identify the openings likely to function as outlets in the event of flushing of water contained in the quarry (precise topographic identification); - Identify the feasibility and constraints (topography, regulatory works, etc.) linked to the creation of passive drainage making it possible to limit the water level in the quarry areas sufficiently low to eliminate the risk linked to flushing; - Evaluate the quantities of water likely to be expelled with several scenarios of potential collapse and therefore the magnitude of the hazard in the “Recent Works” area; - Identify downstream issues (housing, traffic routes, etc.) and quantify the potential impacts for each of the scenarios mentioned above; - Evaluate the feasibility of implementing structures capable of protecting the issues identified above (nature, location, sizing and summary costing). The purpose of this consultation is to select the service provider responsible for carrying out part of the missions provided for under this prefectural decree.
