The Directorate of Protected Areas and Marine Issues (OFB), under the leadership of the ministries of fisheries and ecology, launched the OBSCAMe project in 2021 to improve the monitoring of accidental captures of marine mammals on gillnetters via electronic observation.Three phases were carried out:Phase 1: test on 5 ships (January-May 2021).Phase 2: experimentation on 20 vessels (until spring 2023).Phase 3 – OBSCAMe+: since April 2023, installation on more than 60 vessels and data analysis (April 2025).The new market extends OBSCAMe+ until December 2026, the current market ending at the end of March 2026 with the objective of continuing the collection and analysis of accidental captures via cameras on board 104 vessels (100 targeted by the cetacean plan + 4 volunteers), with a ceiling of 140 vessels.The main area of ​​intervention will be the gillnetters of the Bay of Biscay and adjacent waters, with the possibility of integrating vessels from other coasts (Channel, Mediterranean) within the framework of FEAMPA, LIFE and projects linked to protected species.The contract provides for several services: installation of devices, collection of data, analysis and restitution of results.
