The site of the former Hôtel Dieu de Poitiers represented the headquarters of public institutions such as the Industrial Court, the academic inspection, the DRAC, the University, the CROUS and the Regional Council. It is today undergoing rapid change in its uses.Made up of buildings around which parking areas are spread out, the site requires a requalification of public spaces with the aim of promoting pedestrian connections. Crossed by local residents from the city center, the project requires the creation of protected paths in order to direct users towards the different establishments.The area is now clogged with vehicles. There are very few sidewalks and no ramps accessible to people with reduced mobility. The road aspect of the access roads represents an important point to be mitigated in the apprehension of the site by both vehicles and pedestrians.The project covers all of the site’s outdoor spaces (21,000 m²). The road which crosses it from north to south connects the low point to the high point, articulating two very distinct spaces.In the upper part, the idea consists of creating a large square in front of the four buildings then, below, rearranging parking spaces. The esplanade thus created will be dedicated to pedestrians (event activities may occasionally take place there) and will enhance the architecture through the use of green materials. The large car park will be organized by alignments of perpendicular spaces, shaded by trees to be planted.In the lower part, around the CROUS and the Dalesme pavilion, the spaces dedicated to parking will be renovated to provide permeable surfaces. Rainwater management work will be carried out. Access to the site is redeveloped, as well as the embankment to the north of the CROUS.To the northwest, riprap is installed to support the slope of the land.All networks (drinking water, wastewater, rainwater, strong and weak currents, heating) will be redone.
