This tender is from the country of Germany in Europe region. The tender was published by Federal Office for Radiation Protection BFS on 29 Sep 2025 for 3625s32262-examination and establishment of new experimental models for radiation-induced cardiovascular diseases Epidemiological evidence takes an increased risk of cardiovascular diseases CVD in doses and dose rates that are much lower than previously assumed However the molecular mechanisms involved have not yet been fully clarified A better understanding of the molecular mechanisms of CVD after radiation will enable the identification and quantitative recording of target molecules and pathological processes that are relevant for the evaluation of radiation risks Since human rehearsals are difficult for biological studies current research is based on well-established in-vitro cell-based and in-vivo animal-based models However these approaches are limited in their ability to reproduce the complexity of the radiation effect on the cardiovascular system Newly experimental models offer a promising alternative because they enable more precise transferability of biological data to humans In addition they represent an inexpensive and time-efficient alternative to animal experiments and can open up new ways especially for drug screenings and biomarker tests These new human ex-vivo model systems for cardiovascular diseases have now been available but the applicability of these systems for the examination of cardiovascular changes after radiation exposure has hardly been examined In this project among the new experimental models that are available on the market e g 3D cell culture cardiac and vascular organoids cultivable tissue cuts or Heart-on-a chip a model is examined and examined for end points that are relevant for radiation-induced CVD The applicability and sensitivity of the selected model are tested depending on the dose and the time after exposure In addition biological and functional markers which are relevant for radiation -induced CVD are analyzed.
