The tender was published by Deutsche Gesellschaft f r Internationale Zusammenarbeit GIZ GmbH on 14 Nov 2025 for 81318903-Strategic alliances and holding of the Expo-MIF Workshop in CO on good practices in integrated fire management Short project description The Amazon region is home to the largest contiguous tropical rainforest in the world a globally important hotspot of biological diversity The region s ecosystems make a key contribution to protecting and regulating the world s climate At the same time the region is increasingly threatened by deforestation degradation and changes in land use Combined with the impacts of climate change this leads to an increased risk and likelihood of wildfires in the region The transboundary dimension and complex dynamics of forest fires require a coordinated and integrated approach to their management at the regional level Against this background in 2021 the member states of the OTCA technically agreed on the Memorando de entendimiento de cooperaci n y asistencia mutua para el manejo integral del fuego MDE-MIF this was officially adopted in October 2023 The aim of the MDE-MIF is to establish a cooperation system for integrated fire management Manejo Integrado del Fuego MIF in the Amazon region that takes into account ecological social technical and environmental aspects of fire - including risk management in Amazonian areas The MDE-MIF defines nine implementation strategies The following are particularly relevant for the current phase of implementation a establishment and official recognition of the Amazon Network for Integrated Fire Management RAMIF consisting of the eight member states of the OTCA b creation of a technical working group within RAMIF with the possibility of collaboration with other countries c development of educational and information measures on the topic of integrated fire management and forest fire risks The first steps towards implementing the MDE-MIF took place in December 2023 with the definition of RAMIF governance and its working rules The two-year work plan was approved in June 2024 The project Strengthening regional cooperation for the sustainable use of natural resources in the Amazon region - Coramazonia implemented by GIZ in cooperation with OTCA aims to improve cooperation on the protection of forests and the sustainable use of natural resources in the member states A central component is supporting the implementation of the MDE-MIF and the RAMIF work plan The project takes a holistic approach that addresses current needs and future challenges The aim is to a improve individual competencies and institutional capacities in the field of fire management b strengthen the exchange of technical and traditional knowledge and c promote good practices with particular attention to the participation of women and indigenous peoples The project is also co-financed by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation deza cosude and works in partnership with the fao.
