Construction liability insurance for the accelerated remediation of hazardous materials at the Gasteig – Part 4: Increased coverage (excess) Insurer involved

The MRG Münchner Raumentwicklungsgesellschaft mbH in Germany from Europe region has released this tender for The Gasteig is Munichs large, centrally located cultural and educational center. With approximately 1.8 million visitors and more than 1,800 events per year, it is Germanys largest cultural center. After more than 30 years of intensive use, the building is due for a complete renovation. Prior to this, hazardous material remediation will take place in 2027-2028. The Munich Spatial Planning Company (MRG), as the client, intends to obtain appropriate insurance coverage during the preliminary hazardous material remediation/deconstruction of the Gasteig through a builders liability insurance policy. The procurement of this builders liability insurance will be carried out in four phases. The lead insurer for the basic builders liability coverage has already been identified and contracted. In a second process, the co-insurer(s) for the basic coverage were identified. This process is nearing completion. The contract for the excess coverage will be tendered in two further rounds. The procedure for the lead insurer for the increased coverage has also already been initiated. The subject of the present procedure is the building owners liability insurance for the accelerated remediation of hazardous materials – specifically regarding the participating insurer(s) for the increased coverage (procurement phase 4). This procedure is based on the contract determined through negotiation in the first procurement phase; no negotiations regarding the contract terms will take place. A so-called restricted procedure pursuant to Section 16 of the German Procurement Ordinance (VgV) will be conducted. This procedure is now being initiated. The preliminary contract value is EUR 59 million.
