Expansion and renovation of the Altmühlfranken Hospital, 1st construction phase (substructure section 1a)

Tender Summary

The Municipal enterprise Klinikum Altmühlfranken in Germany from Europe region has released this tender for Back in 2008, the Altmühlfranken Hospital in Weißenburg was expanded to include a specialist medical center. Now, due to the age of the building and deficiencies in space and functionality, the hospital is to undergo a comprehensive renovation and expansion in two construction phases. This application for construction and equipment planning covers the first construction phase, BA1, and its two sub-phases, BA1A and BA1E. BA1 – 1st Construction Phase: In the first construction phase, the existing functional wing will be replaced by a new building (BA1A) and subsequently renovated or converted for future uses (BA1B). In addition, the existing entrance hall will be expanded and renovated (BA1E). BA1A – New Building: The new building in the southeast of the property is planned as a compact structure with an ideal floor plan and direct access to the main entrance. The new building will house all of the hospitals highly specialized core functions in one location: - Basement: Central Sterile Supply Department (CSSD), laboratory, changing rooms, archives, laundry exchange, technical services - Ground floor: Emergency Department/Central Outpatient Clinic with new ambulance entrance and outpatient entrance, radiology, endoscopy, diagnostic testing, delivery room - 1st floor: Operating theater with same-day surgery, intensive care unit, on-call service - 2nd floor: Technical services. The floor plan features a centrally located, east-west oriented public access axis, to which the individual functional areas and the vertical circulation system with elevator core are connected. An inner courtyard will also be created on the 1st floor, ensuring natural light for the relevant departments. This custom-designed new building will optimize hospital operations and eliminate the primary functional deficiencies of the existing building. The independent construction of the new functional wing BA1A allows ongoing operations in the existing building to continue uninterrupted. BA1E - New Construction/Renovation of the Entrance Hall: The new building and its connection to the existing structure will simultaneously create a new entrance area and thus a new, forward-looking urban design for the hospital. To this end, the existing entrance hall will be extended/straightened at ground level, creating a clear and unambiguous access point. The entrance hall, centrally located within the hospital, will undergo a complete renovation and house general functions: - Ground Floor: Service facilities including reception/mailroom, pastoral care and social services area - Upper Floors: Access with waiting areas. During this renovation, a temporary main entrance can be established from the north at the transition to the new building. BA1B - Renovation of Existing Building, Outlook (not part of this project plan): After the hospitals core functions relocate to the newly constructed BA1A building, the original functional wing will be converted accordingly, and the following functions will be located there: - Basement: Utilities, storage, building and transport services, maintenance/repair, waste disposal, pharmaceuticals, technical services - Ground Floor: Physical therapy, medical services, on-call serviceFood service area with visitor/staff cafeteria and outdoor area - 1st floor: Medical services, administration - 2nd floor: Chapel, technical facilities. As part of the comprehensive renovation, a courtyard will be created on the 1st floor as a major structural intervention to provide natural light to the adjacent areas. The entire renovation can be carried out in one phase; only the existing food service area on the lower ground floor will initially remain and will be dismantled and remodeled after completion of the new food service area on the ground floor. BA2 - 2nd construction phase, outlook (not part of this construction plan). In the second construction phase, the nursing care facilities at the Altmühlfranken Weißenburg Hospital will be modernized. Two options are available for this: - Renovation and expansion of the existing nursing homes - New nursing care buildings next to the newly constructed functional wing BA1A, whose positioning and floor plan layout allow for an ideal connection to the new nursing care buildings. with tender notice no. 693272-2026 published on 08 Oct 2026.
