File cleaning and mold remediation at bensberg town hall The advertised project involves cleaning measures on microbially contaminated archive material in various rooms as well as the renovation of plaster that is partly damaged by mold and moisture The execution of the work must begin in consultation with the client The measure is divided into two sections 1 the renovation of the files 2 the renovation of the damaged plaster The rooms used for file storage are located in the basement of the Bensberg town hall on the one hand in the Hochbau archive and on the other hand in the old archive Both archives are at Wilhelm-Wagener-Platz in 51429 Bergisch Gladbach Appointments for a possible viewing are by appointment Mon -Fri possible from 7 a m to 12 p m The rooms in the old archive are of solid construction with mineral plaster The rooms in the building construction archive are made of sand-lime brick File renovation Approximately 17 500 files need to be renovated in the two archives Cleaning the files The previously documented stacks of files are brought to the work area in transport containers This is where the cleaning takes place A photocopier a category H vacuum cleaner and the necessary equipment for properly setting up a black area in accordance with DGUV 201-028 must be available in the work area The file cover must be replaced for the files previously marked by the specialist construction management Beforehand the file cover is copied and stapled glued to the new file cover The documents within these conspicuous files must be cleaned with a category H vacuum cleaner Books with plastic covers can be wiped clean This is followed by the main cleaning This is done by gently blowing at reduced air pressure while simultaneously vacuuming the surfaces while constantly shaking If necessary the inside pages should also be treated accordingly The files are then stored in carefully labeled cleaned containers The files are then sorted again Approximately 8 000 of the files Cat 1 5 500 Cat 3 2 500 do not need to be cleared These remain in the airtight boxes and are transported further by the client The storage specifications are specified by the users Renovation of rooms In various rooms there is moisture damage to the plastered solid external and internal walls The measure in the old archive involves rubbing the plaster with biocide such as 10-20 hydrogen peroxide solution in rooms T10 T11 T12 T13 and T14 Only a superficial abrasion should be carried out in the building construction archive Each room should be viewed as a separate black area One renovation area must be set up for each room If necessary these requirements can be deviated from if this enables a sensible combination of black areas The following measures must be carried out following the extraction and storage of the room s files - Construction of the particle-tight seal and the renovation area - Biocide treatment of the wall areas - Fine cleaning of all horizontal and vertical surfaces As soon as the rooms have been cleaned they are cleared by the accompanying experts The target value is the specifications according to WTA information sheet 4-12 Mold damage - goals and control of mold damage restoration in indoor areas
