The tender was published by Federal Environment Agency Section Z 1 5 on 20 Nov 2025 for Fkz 3725 41 502 0 - nbs in the alps - ways to implement and perpetuate nature-based solutions in alpine communities REFOPLAN 2025 NbS in the Alps - Ways to implement and consolidate nature-based solutions in Alpine communities The planned research project aims to systematically record evaluate and make transferable nature-based solutions NbS as effective measures for climate adaptation mitigation and biodiversity protection for the Alpine region The background is the high vulnerability of the Alpine regions to extreme events caused by climate change water scarcity and loss of biodiversity as well as the limited human financial and legal capacities of many communities At the same time European frameworks such as the EU Nature Restoration Law and the Biodiversity Strategy 2030 provide concrete scope for action Central research questions concern i the conditions under which communities can successfully implement NbS ii typical barriers and success factors with regard to institutional socio-economic and geographical differences iii the role of innovative financing and governance models and iv the development of suitable indicators and monitoring approaches to reliably record impact cost-benefit and scaling potential Methodologically the project combines a broad-based inventory taking into account existing community networks and community associations with in-depth case studies in selected model communities Standardized surveys guided interviews qualitative and quantitative analyzes and the development of a set of indicators are used Parallel monitoring ensures that the results are documented converted into practical products guides checklists digital tools and made usable beyond the duration of the project The project is also an activity of the German Presidency of the Alpine Convention and is being carried out in close coordination with the Federal Environment Agency the Alpine Climate Board and other partners It thus contributes to the integration of NbS into politics planning and practice in the Alpine region.
