A planting trench approximately 2.3 meters wide and 1.5 meters deep will be excavated for the new trees. The excavated soil will be removed and disposed of. The planting trench will be filled with structurally stable tree substrate and 30 cm of topsoil, covered with mineral mulch. The 2.3 m wide planting strip will be planted with a diverse range of perennials. The planting strips will be divided into bed segments with paved walkways and bordered by a raised granite plinth topped with a raised border grid. An automatic irrigation system with drip hoses will be installed. The existing benches will be replaced with new ones. These new benches were designed specifically for the Unter den Linden location and will be provided by the client. The existing light poles will be removed by Stromnetz Berlin and reinstalled by them after the substrate has been installed. Some light poles will be relocated to a new position. The scope of work for the construction project described here includes the excavation of the utility trench and the installation of empty conduits. Following the initial maintenance period of up to one year, a three-year maintenance period will be required. The project will be implemented in five phases, defined by the traffic junctions. Construction is scheduled to begin in the fourth quarter of 2026, but no later than after the contract is awarded. Completion of construction, including final maintenance, is planned for mid-2029. This will be followed by ongoing maintenance until mid-2032. To minimize disruption to the public, completed sections will be reopened to public use.
