Open space planning competition with traffic components "Redesign of the town center", municipality of Heikendorf

The Municipality of Heikendorf, the mayor, represented by GOS mbH as trustee redevelopment agency in Germany from Europe region has released this tender for As part of the urban development program "Lively Centers," the municipality of Heikendorf is launching a landscape design competition with traffic considerations. The aim of the competition is to develop innovative and site-specific open space concepts as a basis for the subsequent reorganization of public open spaces and traffic areas in the center of Heikendorf. The need for action to redesign and enhance the town center was highlighted in the update of the integrated urban development concept from 2025 (GOS mbH). This concept identifies the implementation of a landscape design competition as a preparatory measure. The competition aims to initiate a transformation process towards a sustainably and attractively designed town center for all population groups in the municipality. The competition area encompasses Dorfstraße (Village Street) as the central axis between Dreangel Street to the east and Teichtor Street to the west. A particular focus is the reorganization of the area around the village square, the former school, and the parking lot on Schulredder to create a distinctive town center with residential, cultural, retail, gastronomic, and public uses. Another focus is the development of the area around Schmiedeplatz as an existing local supply center. Due to the close spatial and functional relationships, a unified, coordinated open space plan is of particular importance for these areas.
