The first phase of this work will be focused on three countries – India; Kenya and Uganda. To prepare for the broader initiative; CGAP is interested in engaging with a firm to conduct a thorough review of the data and literature available on this sub-segment of MSEs in the three countries mentioned above. The ultimate objective is for the Consultant to provide criteria / dimensions on the basis of which CGAP can conduct a segmentation exercise in the three countries. The main objectives of this research are to: * Review existing data sets / available literature about the MSE segment and available sources of MSE finance in India; Kenya and Uganda.* Within the broader MSE sector; provide a more detailed assessment of data about segment of subsistence; nano; and micro-enterprises owned and run by women (or proxies thereof) * On the basis of the data and literature available; identify a set of dimensions along which a meaningful segmentation exercise can be conducted at a country level The expected outputs from this exercise include; but are not limited to:1. Documented Literature Review with chapters for each country 2. Recommendations on segmentation criteria by country with tender notice no. 0002002951 published on 08 Aug 2023.
