The Federal Ministry for Econorrsc Cooperation and Development BMZ has requested GI2 to implamantthe Inoo-German Development Cooperatron Project 'Sustainable Aquaculture for Food and Lrvelihood (SAFAl)" in cooperation with the Ministry of Fisheries. Animal Husbandn/ and Dairying, Government of Irvia The project objective is to provide more fish products and higher income from sustainable and resource-efficient pond-based aquacuflure for the food-insecure population in Assam and OoVsha. Target groups are smaU-scale fish producers. Farmer Producer Organisations (FPOs). women Set* Help Groups iSHGsi. multoiiers and policymakers SAFAL wifl support small farmers public and private аеплсе providers (Aquaculture Service Providers, ASPs) and other actors in the value char (eg hatchenes. feed producers, fish traders) in the states of Assam and Ooisha Trainings and capacity bulcbng л* improve access to knowledge (technical and business management), resources (fingerlings and feed), markets end financial services It also supports the political partner's objectives of organising small producers m FPOs and increasing aquaculture production Sustainable aquaculture as a commercial activity creates jobs and income opportunities m rural areas At the political level the project promote* dialogue and knowledge exchange in the sector to support the sustainable development of aquaculture through an appropnate pobcy framework and to prevent potential negative social and environmental impacts.
