Scope of Work 1. Review relevant documents to understand the context of data collection to meet the project objective 2. Customize (in consultation with the GAIINS Project team) the Women’s Empowerment in Agriculture Index (WEAI) tool (with five domains - Decisions about agricultural production, Access to productive resources, Control over use of income, Leadership in the community and Time allocation) to meet project data collection needs 3. Collect baseline data using the WEAI tool from households in the five counties that include Bungoma, Embu, Makueni, Nakuru, and Uasin Gishu. 4. Conduct focus group discussions across the 5 counties to answer the following questions; a) What are the barriers to women farmers’ resilience to climate shocks? b) What awareness, experiences with, and concerns about agricultural financing and insurance products do women and men farmers have? Including how incentives, bundles or other considerations change willingness to pay c) How does the insurance sector, including government, currently address insurance services, and also customer/beneficiary needs of women and men, and groups in Kenya? 5. Conduct key informant interviews across the five counties to understand the barriers faced by index-based crop insurance providers 6. Work with RCMRD to recruit research assistants and provide training to this team on the relevant data collection methodologies 7. Conduct data analysis and compile various reports of outcome from the data collection exercise published on 18 May 2023. The tender expired on 29 May 2023.
