Aug 2023 Intervention Sector(s): Relief Services Duration of Contract: 12 months Psychiatrist consultant will be primarily responsible for participating actively in a project that aims to integrate mental health services in primary health care settings while technically collaborating with the PUI's MHPSS Team, which is made up of MHPSS Specialists, MHPSS Team Managers, psychologists, and social workers, under the overall supervision of the MHPSS Coordinator and the Primary Health Care Center (PHCC) Manager. To specify more the psychiatrist will be responsible for the provision of psychiatric consultations for the severe Mental, Neurological, and Substance (MNS) Use Disorder cases referred by the PUI’s MHPSS Team, General Practitioners (GPs) in PHCCs while also be responsible for providing technical supervision to the trained (on Mental Health Gap Action Plan- MHGAP) health staff (1 GP and 2 nurses from each PHCC and in total 2 PHCCs are expected to be supported) for the clinical management of the persons with Mental Health (MH) conditions. The psychiatrist will be roving in between the two PHCCs which are supported by PU-AMI, and s/he will be responsible for providing guidance, support, and confidence to trainees while demonstrating new skills and knowledge acquired or improved during the MHGAP training during the management of persons with MNS disorders. In addition to that, s/he will receive severe MH cases, in case there is no other specialized MH service provider available in the relevant catchment areas of the PHCCs. Description PU-AMI’s MHPSS Department is looking for a psychiatrist to perform the below-mentioned tasks Psychiatric Consultations: The psychiatrist will receive referrals of the cases with severe MH conditions from PUI’s specialized MHPSS staff and PHCC’s trained GPs. The Psychiatrist will be responsible for evaluating, diagnosing, and treating patients with severe MNS conditions in close coordination with the PU-AMI MHPSS team and trained GPs. In addition, s/he will prescribe psychotropic medication, order tests, and/or refer patients according to their needs. The psychiatrist will follow up with patients to ensure that they are responding positively to treatment and make amendments to the treatment plan, when necessary, by including the trained GPs. The psychiatrist will conduct his/her consultations in PU-AMI-supported PHCCs and will provide house visits to patients with limited physical mobility and with severe MH complaints. The psychiatrist will be responsible for documenting the relevant data by filling out the relevant psychiatric assessment and follow-up forms for each patient visit. Technical Supervision for the MH GAP trained health staff The psychiatrist will individually supervise the trained GPs in the management of the MNS cases while also supervising the MH Team including the PU-AMI’s MHPSS Team and the trained GPs and nurses in the case-focused discussions either through the in-person or remote modality. The psychiatrist will design the individual and group supervision plan based on the availability and the needs of the trained health staff in a participatory way with the PHCC Manager and the MHPSS Team Manager of PU-AMI. The psychiatrist is expected to use the relevant supervision templates provided by the PU-AMI MHPSS Coordinator after each and every individual and group session. The psychiatrist will adopt pre and posts tests to demonstrate the increased knowledge and skills after completion of the supervision cycle. The same template used in the MH GAP training should be used also as a pre and post-test to show the impact of the supervision. Qualifications Experience in providing clinical supervision to trained (on MH GAP/Identification and referral of the MH cases) health staff/ MHPSS staff is mandatory. Comprehensive knowledge of the MH GAP training curriculum and implementation guidance is desired. Work experience (in terms of providing psychiatric consultations) in PHCCs or in projects that aim to integrate MHPSS services into Health platforms would be an asset.
