Development of Estuary-level Ecosystem Restoration Plans in Mozambique

This tender is from the country of Mozambique in African region. The tender was published by UN Secretariat on 14 Sep 2023 for The United Nations The United Nations Office at Nairobi (UNON), on behalf of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), invites qualified interested firms to submit an Expression of Interest (EOI) to participate in the upcoming solicitation for the development of Estuary-level Ecosystem Restoration Plans in Mozambique. The requirement entails providing technical advisory services to develop ecosystem restoration plans at the estuary level and come up with the best set of Ecosystem-based Adaptation interventions such as green and green-grey approaches - needed to mitigate flood, storm, and cyclone impacts on communities. Those plans are required in the context of the design phase of the Green Climate Fund (GCF) project: "Building resilience of coastal communities through Ecosystem-based Adaptation approaches in Mozambique" which will cover three estuaries with the following catchment areas: 19,043 km2 for Bon Sinais, 1,380,691 km2 for Zambezi and 345,897 km2 for Limpopo. The objective is to ascertain how reforestation and other green-grey infiltration measures could help reduce rainfall-based flooding and coastal flooding, determine what return period events the project can help mitigate against through nature-based solutions, and identify the most effective interventions for flood/storm mitigation. This study is expected to refine proposed interventions, assumptions, and specific costs remaining within the set overall budget. This work would comprise the following tasks: - Ecosystems assessment including how they changed over time, their absorption/infiltration potential, and their current status/integrity to deliver key services, especially flood regulation and protection but also co-benefits including mitigation values, - hydrological and drainage studies to understand the flow and extent of flood water in each estuary, - Climate risk assessment mapping populated areas, private land, and built assets and key risks they are witnessing The services and deliverables are required in English, but a good knowledge of Portuguese would be a strong added advantage to facilitate contacts and collaboration with national stakeholders as well as on-the-ground missions to project sites if relevant. The complete details of the requirement will be provided in the tender documents that will be issued to bidders after this request for EOI is closed. The last date to submit your bid for this tender was 03 Oct 2023. This tender is for the companies specializing in IT services and similar sectors.
