It will work with investment ecosystem actors, especially traditionally disadvantaged fund managers (women fund manager, BBBEE investors) to improve investment readiness, identify, and build deal pipelines of more bankable businesses, and stimulate long-term change in market dynamics to improve deal flow and investment into high-growth sectors. It will also facilitate new partnerships that blend agricultural know-how with impact capital from multiple sources. Finally, the project will build new connections between U.S. and Southern African capital providers by highlighting positive stories and expanding professional connections that will seed the market and deepen private investment. A market systems project, the Mobilizing Investment Activity builds upon USAID Southern Africa efforts and accomplishments to mobilize investment for a variety of sectors through initiatives such as the South Africa Small and Medium Enterprise (SA SME) Fund, the USAID Africa Trade and Investment (ATI) Southern Africa Program, INVEST and the USAID Investment Support Program, among others. Co-creation, collaboration, learning and adaptation, and communicating that knowledge externally will be fundamental to the operations of the project. A key entry point for these partnerships will be open calls to the market for innovative ideas under the project’s Partnership Fund.
