This is for an informative and formative research to:
1. Identify behavioral change determinants, key messages, activities
2. Understanding the BCC strategy understanding the existing channels of
communications in the target communities
3. Determine the key barriers to 3 WASH behavioral change and key determinants for
adopting these best practices
4. Adopting the best practices for gender, age, disability inclusion in the targeted
communities
Scope of Work
1. Examine the key WASH services for life saving practices:
A. Use of latrines and Ownership
B. Appropriate household water supply, treatment and storage
C. Waste management including Safe handling and disposal of feaces, hand
washing
D. Personal Hygiene especially routine and daily bathing from both male and
female.
2. Critical analysis of current SBC approaches towards addressing hygiene practices,
methods, tools capturing better approaches, messages and dissemination through
various channels at work.
3. Gaining insight towards the integrated sectoral approaches associated with hygiene
practices and communication channels
4. Developing a research methodologies providing comprehensive pictures of
participants at various levels and their power influence on hygiene behavoirs and
acceptance. In collaboration with ForAfrika staff and MOH communities will be
selected and target participants groups.
5. Develop questionnaire for the non-doers and doers for the data collections after field
testing exercise
6. Provide detailed methodologies for data collection from the various representatives
7. A set of field-tested and tailored messages related to key studied behaviours.
8. Field training to volunteers or staff members on data collection and coding.
Methodology
Barrier analysis is a participatory assessment methodology of the doer and the non-doer’s
system used for investigating why people do not have access to WASH services, through
exposing the barriers they face, and developing solutions to overcome these barriers.
Key Deliverables
The deliverables include the following key deliverables(subject to further review)
Formative Study and inception report: Detail methodology, sampling framework, data
sources, data collection and analysis procedures and tools.
Draft study report
Presentation of draft study report and finding for validation and fine turning,
recommendations and approaches.
Field research Study report: 1 copy and Soft copies to ForAfrika

Initial work plan in line with the methodology outlined and availability notice
Financial proposal detailing the daily rate expected

The consultant will share and present his findings to key stakeholders in feedback sessions
in a formative research
