Tender Summary
The Karolinska Institutet in Sweden from Europe region has released this tender for The Department of Learning, Informatics, Management and Ethics (LIME) conducts research and education that promotes the practical implementation of research findings and new knowledge in public health work, healthcare and social care. The department has two university-wide areas of activity – pedagogical development and support activities and research, education and advice in the field of health and medical care and research ethics. It is an exciting work environment where research and education are in focus. The BCI service is part of a research project conducted by the National Center for Suicide Research and Prevention of Mental Illness (NASP). NASP assists the government and the Stockholm Region's decision-makers and residents with knowledge bases, knowledge development and knowledge dissemination. Our mission is to contribute to reducing the number of suicides and suicide attempts regionally and nationally through research, strategic public health work, education and information dissemination. NASP also contributes to developing and stimulating the knowledge area of suicide and suicide prevention, where evaluation of various interventions is an important part. NASP is looking for a Supplier, with experience in communicating with suicidal people, to carry out a Brief Contact Intervention (BCI) – a proven model that has been shown in international studies to be able to reduce suicidal behavior in suicidal people. BCI refers here to supportive telephone calls to a person who has suicidal thoughts. Brief Contact Interventions (BCIs) are interventions where people with an increased risk of suicide are followed up regularly and systematically via telephone, letter, text message or similar. BCI interventions are primarily used as a way to convey human support and concern, as well as to encourage seeking help when needed or compliance with treatment if such is ongoing. BCI interventions are therefore not a therapeutic treatment, and one advantage is that the intervention does not need to be carried out by medical personnel. Another advantage is that the regular contacts with the people are short, which enables follow-ups of a broad population. This makes BCIs a cost-effective intervention that can be offered to many people and risk groups. Several scientific studies that have evaluated BCI interventions have found positive effects in the form of fewer suicide attempts and suicides (for systematic reviews see: Zalsman et al., 2016; Mann et al 2022). The procured supplier must develop a system that can receive participants with an increased risk of suicide. The system must enable processes to regularly follow up on these people through structured telephone contacts according to our guidelines that aim to provide interpersonal support. At each contact, the caller must be able to take notes that will be used as a basis for the next call. All parts of the system must be developed with the security features required to be able to handle sensitive personal data according to the Data Protection Regulation. For this purpose, see attached PUB agreement that must be signed in order for KI to be able to enter into an agreement with a supplier regarding this project. The service will be aimed at individuals over 18 years of age. The procured supplier must be able to deliver the service to as many people as possible until 2029, where each person is followed up approximately eight (8) times per year and each contact session takes approximately 20 minutes. In the event of no contact, the procured supplier must follow the study protocol's procedures for repeated contact attempts in the event of a missed contact session. The supplier must also be able to offer people the opportunity to specify when during the day they wish to be contacted. Callers do not need to have formal clinical training, but they must have relevant training or experience in offering social support (see requirements below). NASP will assist with training in connection with the project, covering approximately one full day. with tender notice no. 695230-2026 published on 08 Oct 2026.
