This study will focus on the Eastern & Southern Africa region; and will involve (i) understanding the regional steel market landscape; including: current market activities across the value chain; upstream (existing and potential liquid steel capacity; including for import substitution); midstream (sheets; rods etc) and downstream (ready consumer product; such as roofing materials); key trends; volumes; players; and proposed target sustainability baselines and benchmarks; (ii) engaging and supporting up to 10 key regional players to refine their decarbonization and growth objectives and develop and support the CAPEX projects required to achieve them.The study’s activities and client engagements are expected to help identify potential opportunities for IFC in the steel sector; and to inform future IFC engagements in steel decarbonization.
