Road Safety Performance has Deteriorated to a Point that it is Becoming a Major Obstacle to Many Countries and Continents/Regions Competitiveness and Development. Poor Road Safety Affects the Most Vulnerable Road Users and the Poor More than Any Other Category of People. For Instance, Despite its Low Motorization Rate, Africa has the Worst Road Safety Performance in the World, and it is the Continent Where More People are Dying Due to Road Crashes than in Any Other Continent. More than 300,000 People Lose Their Lives Every Year. Meanwhile, Africa’S Economic Growth is Accompanied by Higher Vehicle Population Growth and Expanded Infrastructure to Meet the Growing Demand. Available Studies Indicate that the African Road Safety Crisis will Continue to Worsen Unless Addressed Timely. According to the World Health Organization’S Global Status Report on Road Safety 2018, between 2013 and 2016, No Reductions in the Number of Road Traffic Deaths were Observed in Any Low-Income Country, including in Africa. To Address These Challenges, Road Safety has been One of the Priority Activities of the Africa Transport Policy Program Successive Development Plans (Ssatp-Dp), and will Remain in its Fourth Development Plan-dp4 (2021-2026), Which will Continue to Focus on Building Capacity to Stabilize and Reduce Road Fatalities and Serious Injuries across the Continent. In Africa, Road Traffic Crashes Continue to be a Major Development and Public Health Crisis and is Now the Leading Cause of Road Deaths and Injuries. In Partnership with Several Stakeholders in Africa (United Nations Economic Commission for Africa, African Development Bank, Several Organizations and Resource Persons from Cote D’Ivoire, Morocco, Nigeria, Senegal, South Africa) the African Transport Policy Program (Ssatp) Organized Three Road Safety Courses in the past in Response to the Need for Greater Leadership Support in Road Safety Management at the Highest Level in Africa. As the Three Individual Post-Training Evaluation Reports Clearly Show, All Three Training Courses were Successful. Based on These Results, the Experiences Gained during the Courses, Communications with Many Participants, and the Experiences of Several Resource Persons, a Set of Recommendations have been Made to Improve Road Safety Training Programs in Africa. As the Next Step, Ssatp, in Collaboration with Partners would like Scale up the Design and Lesson Content of this Course and Develop a Leaders in Road Safety Managemnt, a Training Program that will be Appealing to Diverse Regions and Countries. The Training Program will be Designed to Bring Together Senior Government Officials and Policy Makers (Ministers and Parliamentarians), Influencers, and Middle-Level Leadership in Road Safety and Relevant Officials from Transport and Health Agencies at All Levels of Government (National, Provincial/State, and Municipal). The Aim of the Program is to Build Capacity in Road Safety Advocacy and Management. Its Main Objectives are to:*Increase Awareness of the Road Safety Challenges and Consequences of Inaction, and the Need for Strong Champions and Advocates at Country Level;*Develop Leadership Capabilities in Road Safety Planning ,Crafting the Most Appropriate Road Safety Interventions with Resources and Accountability, Implementation, Etc. with tender notice no. 0002000533 published on 21 Mar 2023.
