Council's vision for Palmerston North is for every resident to be able to enjoy the benefits of living in a small city, with the advantages of a big city. We're wanting to be bold and ambitious in the steps we take to achieve this vision. One of Council's top City Shaping moves, is a Transformation of the city centre through the delivery of six city centre Catalyst Projects. Streets for People is one of these projects. It involves the delivery of the streetscape plan developed for the upgrade of streets around and adjacent to The Square. The first stage of Streets for People, Square East Stage 1, has been completed. This is the section between Church Street and Main Street East, on the Square side of the road. Square East Stage 2 on the business side of the road is currently in detailed design with construction planned to be delivered by the end of October. The next stage, and the one we're initially looking to procure design services for shortly, leapfrogs the Main Street roundabout and focuses on the section of Square East between Main Street and Broadway Ave. The design for Stage 3 will consider both sides of the road, and how it will tie into the existing intersections. Council require a Consultant Team that brings multi-disciplinary capability and expertise to the Streets for People programme. Key areas that the Consultant Team will be required to cover are: · Project Management; · Landscape / Streetscape Design; · Civil Design; · Stakeholder Engagement; · Quantity Surveying; · Contract Management.
