The AUCKLAND TRANSPORT in New Zealand from Australia region had released this tender for Registration of Interest (ROI) for - Matiatia Wharf Northern Berth Design Open Date: Monday, 27 March 2023 11:30 AM (Pacific/Auckland UTC+13:00) Close Date: Thursday, 13 April 2023 10:00 AM (Pacific/Auckland UTC+12:00) Tender Type: Registration of Interest (ROI) Tender Coverage: Sole Agency Regions: Auckland Required Pre-qualifications: None Overview: This ROI seeks to procure a suitable marine designer, supported by a naval architect, to progress the preliminary design for Pier 2 - Northern Berth Pontoon and Gangway Renewal Design. Matiatia Main Wharf is the primary port for visitors arriving and departing from Waiheke and is the second busiest terminal in Auckland’s Ferry Network, after Downtown, with services running every 30 minutes. The wharf was originally constructed in 1993 and consists of a reinforced concrete deck supported by concrete main piles. The original substructure comprised four concrete pontoons that were bound together as one large unit, supporting two gangways (lower / upper) for Pier 1 (southern side), and a single gangway on Pier 2 (northern side). The pontoon structure supporting Piers 1 and 2, had a design life of 15 years and prior to decommissioning, was 19 years old. Auckland Transport is in the process of renewing/replacing the berthing infrastructure (pontoons, gangways and walkways) at both piers 1 and 2. The new Pier 1 infrastructure opened for passenger service in December 2022 and is in the process of closing out construction activities. The focus of the wharf renewal now shifts towards the design of Pier 2, the northern berth. The recently completed renewal works for Pier 1, decommissioned the original pontoon and installed a smaller steel pontoon serving just Pier 1. In the future Pier 2 will have its own separate steel pontoon, allowing the berthing structures to work independently of each other. This has a flow-on benefit for maintenance activities which can take one pontoon out of operation if required, while the other stays in service. In conjunction with the Pier 1 upgrade, AT also instructed designers Worley Consultants, to develop a preliminary design to replace the Pier 2 pontoons and gangways. They have subsequently completed a 3D (Revit) model, Basis of Design and Principal’s Requirements. The project is now at a stage where it is ready to progress into the next design stage for Pier 2. with tender notice no. 746-23-511-PS published on 28 Mar 2023. The tender expired on 13 Apr 2023.
